New formulation Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 was field-proven in northern Alberta in V-20 heavy duty diesel engines powering large haul trucks in an oil sands mine.
Test results confirm that new formulation
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 synthetic diesel engine oil delivers improved performance, with good viscosity and TBN retention, low wear metals, and exceptional wear protection at low temperatures.
Cold Start testing (please see charts below) showed positive results after a 16-hour shutdown at -10° C (14° F). Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 exhibited good cold temperature performance in all test units. Filters maintained optimal flow throughout the field test.

New formulation Mobil Delvac 1™ ESP 0W-40 delivers more powerful cold weather protection than ever before – and test results confirm it. Three V-20 off-highway diesel engines powering large haul trucks took part in the five-month test at a northern Alberta oil sands mine. Each truck completed three 500 hour oil drain intervals, with oil withdrawn for analyses after 250 and 500 hours. The results confirm the improved performance of new formulation Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 synthetic diesel engine oil, showing good viscosity, TBN retention, low wear metals and exceptional low temperature MRV (mini rotary viscometer) results.
This Cold Start Test measures both oil temperature and pressure in the critical early moments following start-up. Note the immediate rise in oil temperature, confirming the ability of New formulation Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 to warm up quickly. Note as well the constant rise in oil pressure. This test measures oil pressure differential across the oil filter. In some systems, 24 PSI would be considered at the high end, but since this unit had no by-pass it was well within range. Note that, as the oil temperature rises, the filter differential drops. This confirms that the oil is flowing smoothly through the filter at start-up and at operating temperature. |

A. New formulation Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40 is engineered to provide exceptional protection in temperatures as low as -40°C, greater protection than any SAE 5W-40 oil. This level of performance makes it well suited for severe cold temperature applications, such as mining, forestry and construction.
Q. Can we top off the engine using the new formulation?
A. Yes, you can. However, to obtain the full benefit of the new formulation, we recommend a complete oil change.
Q. Is there a change in the colour of the lubricant?
A. No. Nothing in the reformulation has caused a change in colour.
Q. What do you recommend for transitioning in bulk storage?
A. We recommend no more than a 10% commingling in the tank in order to enjoy the full benefits of improved performance in new formulation Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40.
